This is an ”introduction to painting”
class with basic drawing taught in the beginning as a developmental tool.
Color mixing, composition and careful observation
will be emphasized.
Nurture self analysis and critical thinking while
learning to cultivate your personal vision.

Pastel is a spontaneous medium offering the immediacy of drawing combined with
the richness of color painting. Soft
pastel (sticks of pure pigment) afford an ease of color blending.
Different papers and pastel grades will be explored, as well as basic
composition and color theory. Study with a master of pastel. Studio fee: $30
This
introductory course will familiarize students with basic techniques of
traditional copper plate etching, use of line, varied etch times, and plate
wiping methods, as we create small editions of our own intaglio prints..

Amazing patterns and designs abound with the beautiful colors and techniques of polymer clay. Make incredible beads, pins, earrings and bracelets. Cover salt shakers, candle sticks or screwdriver handles. Once you start, you won’t want to stop! Studio fee: $15
An introduction to
oil painting beginning with simple color exercises and advancing to composition
and spatial dynamics. Light, shadow,
rhythm and proportion will be explored through the versatile medium of oil
paint. Studio fee: $25
This beginning intensive will cover
the use of basic hand tools and the primary techniques in making jewelry and
metal objects. Students will learn about hot and cold connections, piercing,
surface decoration, finishing, and a variety of other ways to manipulate metal.
Students are encouraged to create their own designs. Bring sketchbook to class.

This watercolor workshop will explore the subject of flowers
by observing the abstract shapes suggested by natural forms.
Through simplification and careful observation students will capture the
transient beauty of flowers.
We will
be using a special paper (Yupo) which allows you to recapture light.

Learn to get around your digital camera so you will be able
to match your settings to the environment you’re shooting in.
With a focus on lighting, composition and the relationship of shutter
speed, aperture and ISO
you will be able to take the perfect image every time.

Drawing is the foundation course that enhances every
artistic form. Instruction covers basic volume, light and shadow, idea and
design, composition and 3D illusion.
Emphasis is on gaining control of the materials and techniques through subject
studies including still life and landscape. Students will acquire an
understanding of line, shadow, tonal gradations.

Enameling is the ancient art of fusing glass to metal using heat. Students will explore different enameling techniques such as sifting, liquid enameling, cloisonné. Each student will be encouraged to experiment within a range of exciting techniques, developing their personal aesthetic direction in the process. Studio fee: $40

Discover methods of papermaking from natural fibers and
colors.
With their handmade paper
students will create a sampler of experiments in folding, fluting, piecing,
impressing and weaving. Paper is used to compose sculptures, frames, folders and
simple books. Studio fee:

This class will cover the fundamentals of landscape painting
with pastel.
It will include
composition, the importance of correct values, masking edges, and other
essentials to create a traditional pastel painting.

An
introduction to oil painting with an emphasis on landscape. This class will
address how to approach and compose the landscape, observe and record natural
light, and mix colors. Weather

This course is a basic introduction of
watercolor techniques, including clean wash, wet on wet, and dry brush, with an
emphasis on light and color. Studies
will focus on subject matter from the exquisite landscape of

of wheel throwing.
Concentrate
on basic forms such as cylinders and bowls, altering forms, attaching handles,
and tooling. Using stoneware clay, learn
about glazing and fire your pieces to cone 10.
Studio fee: $40
Raku, a Japanese
firing technique translates as, “beauty by chance”. Clay is fired to 1900
degrees and removed from an outdoor kiln at full temperature.
The ceramic piece is buried in a can of sawdust to reduce the chamber of
oxygen, creating copper lustres, turquoise blues, crackling and iridescent glaze
effects. This intensive workshop will culminate with a dramatic Raku firing.
Studio fee: : $40.
This course provides students with an introduction to the basic techniques of hand building, slab forming, wheel throwing, glazing, slip application, and firing methods. Work in stoneware clay and fire to cone 10. Studio fee: $35 (includes 15 lbs. of clay)
